October 2026 Senior Newsletter
Make sure you are enjoying every moment of your senior year, because life will never be quite the same once you graduate. Don’t forget to take time to read every newsletter so you will know and understand the information that applies to you. I will also attach any scholarship opportunities that come across my desk!
Career Coach
This year your Career Coach will be Mrs. Shay Dubois. She will be meeting with every graduating student to help make decisions and complete paperwork toward their postsecondary plans. This includes college applications, scholarship applications, financial aid paperwork, and more. These items have deadlines, so it is important to take advantage of your appointments with her.

AHEC Health Career Opportunities
If you are considering the medical field, AHEC programs are an opportunity to learn about different healthcare careers. AHEC packets are available in the counselor’s classroom.

College and Financial Aid Planning
ACT
Remember the ACT test dates from the previous newsletter. Each test has a registration deadline, so if you plan to take the ACT again, visit the ACT website and check the deadline for your test date.
If you need an ACT fee waiver, see your counselor.
Louisiana College Application Month
October is Louisiana College Application Month. Applications for colleges and universities across the state open this month for students entering as freshmen next fall.
LOSFA Student Resources
LOSFA’s EXpert, or LEX, is an artificial-intelligence chatbot on the LOSFA website that can answer general questions around the clock and provide information about TOPS.
Students should also consider registering for the Student Hub on the LOSFA website for scholarship and grant information.

Scholarships for Women
There are many scholarship opportunities available for women. The listings change often, so check the site regularly.
Cooke College Scholarship
The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship for high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from a four-year college or university.
Deadline: November 11, 2026
LELA
LELA offers scholarship opportunities for students who need money for college. One opportunity is available after completing the FAFSA, and another is available after enrolling in college.
Visit the LELA website and look under Planning and Paying for College, then Paying for College.
Regions Riding Forward Scholarship
The 2026 Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Contest consists of four separate quarterly contests, one for each calendar quarter of 2026. Regions is awarding four $8,000 scholarships through each quarterly contest.

Louisiana Life Safety & Security Association Youth Scholarship
Scholarships are available for active-duty law enforcement, fire service personnel, and EMS. The flyer for this scholarship was attached to the original newsletter.

Keep Your Information Organized
You may want to begin a folder in which you keep all of your applications, letters of recommendation, transcripts, essays, and other materials. This makes the application process much easier.
If there is a college or university you are interested in, check its website for important dates and deadlines, including preview dates, open houses, and program offerings. You can also visit LACRAO and use the Member Institution information to explore colleges and universities throughout Louisiana.
