September 2026 Senior Newsletter
Make sure you are enjoying every moment of your senior year, because life will never be quite the same once you graduate. Don’t forget to take time to read every newsletter so you will know and understand the information that applies to you. I will also attach any scholarship opportunities that come across my desk!
Career Coach
This year your Career Coach will be Mrs. Shay Dubois. She will be meeting with every graduating student to help make decisions and complete paperwork towards their postsecondary plans. This includes things such as college applications, scholarship applications, financial aid paperwork, etc. All of these things have a deadline that must be met, so it is very important that you take advantage of your appointments with her.

Senior Planning
ACT
An ACT brochure listing test dates for the 2026–2027 year is attached to the original newsletter. These tests have deadline dates, so if you are planning to take the ACT again, visit the ACT website to check the deadline for each date.
If you need an ACT fee waiver, see your counselor.
NSU Dual Enrollment
If you are a dual enrollment student for NSU, log in and print an academic calendar so you know important dates for the semester. This will show holidays, midterms/finals, and drop dates.
College Fair
The College Fair will be at Grant High School on September 22. More information and permission slips will be provided as the date gets closer.
Louisiana College Application Month
October is Louisiana College Application Month. This is when applications for colleges across the state officially open for entering freshmen next fall and students can begin filling out college scholarship applications. Some colleges may open earlier.
LOSFA Student Resources
The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance has an artificial intelligence chatbot called LOSFA’s EXpert (LEX). It is located on the LOSFA website and is designed to answer general questions around the clock, including information about TOPS.
It is also a good idea to register on the Student Hub on the LOSFA website for scholarship and grant information.

Scholarships for Women
There are many scholarship opportunities available for women. The website is updated frequently, so the available opportunities change often.
Cooke College Scholarship
The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from a four-year college or university.
Deadline: November 11, 2026
LELA
LELA offers scholarship opportunities for students who need money for college. One can be applied for after completing the FAFSA, and another is available after enrolling in college.
On the LELA website, look under Planning and Paying for College, then Paying for College.
Coca-Cola Scholarship
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is an achievement-based scholarship for students in their final year of high school. Students are recognized for leadership, service, and their impact on their schools and communities.

Keep Your Information Organized
You may want to begin a folder in which you keep all of your applications, letters of recommendation, transcripts, essays, and other materials. This can make the application process much easier.
If there is a college or university you are interested in, check its website for important dates and deadlines, including preview days, open houses, and program offerings. You can also visit LACRAO and use the Member Institution information to explore colleges and universities throughout Louisiana.
